The Author's Journey

One of the most satisfying feelings in life is to go against the odds to achieve your dreams. I always wanted to be a writer, but I was one of those kids who didn't have access to the availability of the  resources necessary to attain significant academic achievement. I told a friend my dream of becoming a writer, and he laughed in my face. This negative and belittling reaction was the catalyst for my academic transformation.

While a literary pursuit was all-compassing and singular, it became the culmination of all the knowledge and experience obtained over the years. The journey began with an unintended collision with poetry. While living with my sister, my nephew came home frustrated and scared. He had an assignment to write a poem for class the next day. He turned to me. “Can you please help me with my homework?" I had never written a poem before, but not willing to let my nephew down I embrace the task. We wrote a decent poem together, and he was a happy child. Follow weekly post for more on the author's journey
